As a Junior in 2015
Herring missed the first 24 matches due to injury, but returned to the line-up and earned two starts in the final eight matches. In the last three matches of the season, Herring recorded four or more digs. She notched four digs at California (11/21), six digs versus Washington State (11/25) and a season-best eight against Utah (11/27). Herring played a total of 26 sets and recorded three assists and 21 digs.
As a Sophomore in 2014
Herring debuted for the Buffs against Northwestern (8/29), but picked up her first dig in the following match against Northern Illinois (8/30) when she recorded two assists and 11 digs. Herring had two stretches during the season when she couldn’t play due to concussions, but when she did play, she was a dependable defensive specialist. She recorded 121 digs in 21 matches, averaging 1.75 per set. Herring collected a career best 15 digs in a four set win against California (10/19). She picked up 10 or more digs in three matches. Herring also had 11 digs against NIU and 12 digs against Northern Colorado (12/5) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

High School
Herring graduated from La Costa Canyon High School. She was a 5-9 outside hitter, libero and defensive specialist for the Mavericks and was coached by Pat McDougal. As a senior, Herring helped her team to a 28-11 overall record and during her junior year the team recorded a 31-9 record. The Mavericks won the league championship from 2010-2012 as well as the CIF Championship. In 2011, the squad also won the southern California regional championship.
Herring played for the Encinitas Wave Volleyball Club and was coached by Jackie Bernardin. She turned her attention to her beach volleyball game by playing for a beach volleyball club this past year before enrolling at CU. Prior to signing with the Buffs, she was recruited by UC-Davis, Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, Denver, Pepperdine and Stanford. She chose CU because it was the right fit.
Personal
Gwendolyn Christine Herring was born on May 10, 1995 in San Diego, Calif. She is the daughter of Robert and Janette Herring of Carlsbad, Calif. Herring has one older sister, Amelia, who plays tennis at Stanford. She enjoys going to the beach, playing sports, drawing and hanging out with friends.
