
Buffs Fall To Reigning National Champion Stanford

“We certainly had our opportunities,” Colorado Head Coach Pi'i Aiu said. “We are a young team and a mature team learns to take advantages of opportunities. We're small and we are going to make some mistakes and they are big. I think we'll get there and I hate to let an opportunity like this go. We certainly had a shot to win a game or two.”
The Buffs were led by sophomore outside hitter Amber Sutherland, who notched 14 kills and hit .323. Senior right side Allie Griffin hammered 12 kills in the loss. She also tossed in six digs, three blocks and one ace. Senior outside hitter Nicole Carr was one dig from a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs. The Buffs hit just .241 as a team and collected 19 hitting errors compared to Stanford's .299 hitting percentage and 16 errors.
Game two went back and forth, but the Cardinal prevailed. Stanford hit 20 kills on 43 attempts and only hit three errors to take the game.
The Buffs are back in action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. when they take on Creighton during the second day of the Colorado Invitational. Stanford will face
