CU-WSU Postgame Quotes
January 09, 2014 | Men's Basketball
University of Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle
General
“Not a good performance by the Buffs. I take responsibility for that, we were not ready to play from the get-go, we came out flat and there is no excuse for it. We dodged a bullet tonight. I would say Washington State came up on the short end of the stick, because I thought they deserved to win this game. They dictated the tempo, we let them dictate the tempo. We were soft defensively. When we did get aggressive, we dictated defensively – which is what we wanted to do – good things happened, but we didn't do it consistently. We did what we had to do down the stretch to win, and for that I'm proud, but I'm not proud of this performance in any way shape or form.”
On Spencer Dinwiddie
“I love Spencer Dinwiddie, I wouldn't trade him for the world, but he was not in Spokane Arena tonight mentally, physically, he was somewhere else. I don't know where it was, but he wasn't here. I don't think he got the ball in the paint off the dribble in the first half, and that's what he's good at.”
On Washington State Hitting 13-of-23 Shots From Three
“Yeah, they shot the ball well. But part of the reason why they shot the ball well is we let them get off shooting the ball well in the first half. They've been a team struggling to score the ball offensively, and they scored 70 against us. They scored 25 points on Arizona, seven in the first half. Their offense hasn't changed, and we're letting them do that.”
On Preparing For UW
“As a coach I have to take responsibility, and I will. We're going to watch film, we're going to practice, that's all I know as a coach, that's the only thing I can do as a coach is take what happened on the floor and try to correct the things we need to get better at, and tonight there was a plethora of thins to get better at. We have three days of practice and we're going to get after it.”

“We didn't play very well, I think that's pretty obvious, but I'm proud we pulled it out. I think our team had a little realization that even though we're the No. 15 team in the country, people are going to make tough shots (against us), and we were lucky to pull this one out. A win is a win, that's the bottom line. Now we have practice tomorrow and we just have to get back in the shop and get better because we can't play like this our next game otherwise we're going to be in trouble.”
On Being Surprised By The Team's Performance
“Too be honest, I was pretty surprised. We've been talking all week, not even with the coaches but as team about how this is a big game for us, and this road trip is huge. The good thing is we won a game, and got a wake-up call at the same time, so we'll take that into Washington this Sunday.”
On Being Aggressive In Overtime
“Spencer [Dinwiddie] wasn't being too aggressive tonight, and I just felt like when someone is not playing their best, or a couple people aren't playing their best, somebody's got to step up and that's the whole thing of a team. And I wasn't the only one, XT [Xavier Talton] hit a big shot there in the second half, X. Johnson was battling all night, we had guys that were stepping up and that's what has to happen when guys aren't playing well.”
