Buffs Shutout Bulldogs, Win Third Straight

September 19, 2014 | Soccer

BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's soccer team shut out the Bryant Bulldogs 2-0 on Friday at Prentup Field, extending its winning streak to three straight matches.

Senior Darcy Jerman scored only four minutes and 23 seconds into the match to give the Buffs an early lead and freshman Brittney Stark added another goal with less than three minutes remaining to help secure the victory.

The Buffaloes jumped out to a 1-0 advantage on Jerman's third goal of the season. Senior Brooke Rice sent a cross from right to left and found Jerman in the center of the Bulldogs' goal box. Jerman controlled the ball and punched it in the corner of the net. Rice picked up her second assist of the year.

Colorado's defense turned in yet another stellar performance holding Bryant (2-7) to two shots (both on net).

"I felt that our goalkeeping was good," said Colorado head coach Danny Sanchez. "I thought our back four and the six players we play back there did very well."

Colorado would continue to create scoring opportunities throughout the entire match, but were not able to connect again until the closing minutes.

The Buffs added their second goal in the 88th minute when midfielder Carly Bolyard assisted Stark. Bolyard launched the ball to the center of the goal box, where Stark spun around and nailed her shot top shelf, recording her second goal of the season to put CU up 2-0.

Jerman led the offensive attack with seven of the Buffs' 19 shots and although the team was only able to score two goals, the CU co-captain was pleased with their effort.

"Our defense was very solid, we're moving the ball around," said Jerman. "We're going to keep working on our finishing and we want to look to score more goals, but I think it was a good result today."

The win lifts Colorado to 6-2 as they shift their focus to their upcoming match against the San Francisco Dons to close out its non-conference schedule.

"San Francisco is a tough team," said Sanchez. "I think Sunday's game will be like a Pac-12 game where we're going to have to play better for longer stretches."

The Buffaloes take the field again on Sunday, Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. when they host San Francisco.
Family Weekend:
Festivities to celebrate Family Weekend continue on Sunday. There will be face painting available for family and friends and an autograph session with the CU soccer team will take place immediately following the match.

Notable:
