TUCSON, Ariz. — Senior midfielder Reagan Kotschau broke one school record and tied another as the Colorado Buffaloes soccer team defeated Arizona, 4-0, Thursday night at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.
The Buffaloes (11-4-1, 5-3-0 Big 12) scored twice in a 2:26 span midway through the first half to take control, earning their second consecutive road victory. The result snapped a four-match unbeaten streak for the Wildcats (5-6-5, 2-2-4 Big 12).
Kotschau opened the scoring with her fifth penalty-kick goal of the season, breaking Colorado's single-season record of four set by Taylor Kornieck in 2019. She later assisted Faith Leyba's goal for her 10th assist, matching the school season record shared by Kornieck (2018), Shanade Hopcroft (2021) and Emerson Layne (2025).
"I thought we were excellent tonight. We did a fantastic job in the back third. It's always a great thing when you can score four goals," Head Coach Danny Sanchez said.
Michaela McGowan and Jace Holley also found the back of the net, giving CU four different scorers. Holley added an assist and scored the 18th goal of her Colorado career, moving into 10th on the program's all-time list.
Colorado outshot Arizona 13-5 and did not allow a shot on goal. The Buffs put six attempts on target and held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Brooke Goerish and Jamie Campbell combined for CU's ninth shutout of the season without needing to make a save. Goerish played the opening 79 minutes before Campbell closed out the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colorado threatened before its two-goal burst, with Kotschau forcing a save in the 14th minute and Caley Swierenga striking the crossbar from the right side of the box a minute later.
The breakthrough came after Sanchez requested a video review that resulted in a handball penalty against Arizona. Kotschau stepped to the spot and buried her attempt in the bottom-left corner in the 22nd minute, giving the Buffs a 1-0 lead.
"Consistent. That's exactly what she's been for us, and she's been good all season," Sanchez said of Kotschau.
Two minutes, 26 seconds later, Swierenga sent a cross into the box from the right side. The ball came off Sloane Phillips' chest to Holley, who played it to McGowan on the right side of the box. McGowan delivered a right-footed finish into the upper portion of the net, doubling the lead at 23:56. Phillips and Holley were credited with assists.
Hannah Healy nearly added a third in the 35th minute, spotting the goalkeeper out of position and sending a long-range attempt off the upper-right portion of the crossbar. Colorado carried its 2-0 lead into halftime with an 8-3 advantage in shots, including a 3-0 edge in shots on goal.
Holley extended the lead in the 55th minute. After Healy's shot from the right side of the box was blocked, Holley collected the loose ball and finished with her right foot.
Faith Leyba capped the scoring in the 75th minute, meeting Kotschau's corner from the left side near the front post and heading it into the back of the net to send Colorado to a 4-0 victory.
