BOULDER — The Colorado Buffaloes soccer team will look to complete a sweep of its three-match road stretch Sunday, Oct. 25, when it visits Arizona State. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. MT, with the match streaming on ESPN+.
The Buffaloes (11-4-1, 5-3-0 Big 12) have picked up consecutive wins at Kansas State and Arizona, scoring seven goals across the two matches. Sunday's regular-season road finale offers a chance to carry that momentum home for CU's final two matches.
Colorado enters with 15 points in Big 12 play, five ahead of Arizona State (8-5-3, 3-4-1). The Sun Devils are coming off a 2-0 home loss to Baylor on Thursday after earning a 2-1 victory at Oklahoma State the previous week.
"Arizona State is a really good team, and we know it's going to be a tough challenge, especially playing at their place. We're going to enjoy the night, but then we'll turn our attention to Sunday," Head Coach Danny Sanchez said after Thursday's match.
The Sun Devils are 5-3-2 at home and have several options in the attack. Kierra Blundell leads ASU with seven goals and 17 points, while Sierra Bergen has contributed four goals and four assists. Amy Medley leads the team with five assists.
The opening half could be important for both teams. Arizona State has scored 19 of its 31 goals before halftime, while Colorado has outscored opponents 22-6 in the first half. The Buffs are 11-1-0 when scoring first.
ASU kept Baylor scoreless until the 57th minute Thursday and finished with 15 shots, including five on goal. Colorado will look to limit those opportunities after holding Arizona without a shot on goal in its 4-0 victory.
FINISHING THE TRIP
The Buffs have found different ways to earn their first two wins of the road stretch. At Kansas State, CU responded after the Wildcats twice erased one-goal leads, with Lilian Zamorano delivering the winner in a 3-2 victory.
Colorado followed that result with a more commanding performance in Tucson. Reagan Kotschau and Michaela McGowan scored 2:26 apart in the first half before Jace Holley and Faith Leyba added second-half goals.
That production gives CU several threats to bring into Sunday's matchup. Kotschau and Hope Leyba share the team lead with nine goals, McGowan has added six, and Holley recorded a goal and an assist against Arizona.
Kotschau also enters with 10 assists, tying Colorado's single-season record shared by Taylor Kornieck, Shanade Hopcroft and Emerson Layne. One more would give the senior midfielder the record outright.
At the other end, Brooke Goerish and Jamie Campbell combined for Colorado's ninth team shutout Thursday. Goerish enters Sunday with a 0.77 goals-against average and an .844 save percentage, providing another foundation for the Buffs as they try to finish the trip with nine conference points.
The all-time series is tied 7-7-2. Colorado has won the last two meetings by shutout, including a 2-0 victory at Prentup Field last season, but Sunday marks its first visit to Tempe since 2021. The Buffs are 1-3-2 on Arizona State's home field.
Colorado returns home to host Cincinnati on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. MT before closing the regular season against Oklahoma State on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. MT.
