CU Handles UNC, 7-0, Winning Each Match-up in Straight Sets

GREELEY, Colo. – The Colorado women's tennis team was absolutely dominant on Saturday, as the Buffaloes won each of its match-ups in straight sets in a 7-0 win over the Northern Colorado Bears at the Work Out West Fitness Center in Greeley, Colo.
The win improved CU's record to 2-0. The loss was UNC's first of the season, and now have a record of 1-1.
"Last week we definitely saw some places to improve," said head coach Nicole Kenneally. "This week we had a very focused week of practice and saw the benefits today."
The Buffs took the doubles point with a clinching 6-3 win on court No. 3 by the pairing of freshman Linda Huang and junior Ilana Oleynik over UNC's Madeline Doherty and Mana Koitabashi.
In singles play, CU was led by Huang, junior Brigitte Beck and sophomore Chloe Hule on courts No. 1, 4 and 3, respectively. Huang took down Rafa Mora of Northern Colorado 6-2, 6-0; Beck defeated UNC's Carrigan Blanchard 6-0, 6-3; and Hule took the clinching win as she handled Doherty 6-2, 6-2.
"We will continue to work and improve each and every day and this group has shown they are ready for the challenge."
The Buffs are now 35-2 overall against the Bears, and 10-0 under Kenneally.
Senior Kyra Wojcik was inserted back into the starting lineup at the No. 5 spot after junior Annabelle Andrinopoulos suffered a season-ending injury in last weekend's match against Colorado State.
Next weekend, the Buffaloes return for a home match against the Air Force Falcons at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4 at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center.
