Match Against Old Dominion Cancelled
BOULDER – The University of Colorado women's tennis team will head to Iowa this weekend with one less match to play than originally scheduled as Old Dominion University pulled out of the triangle weekend due to inclement weather.
Â
Colorado (5-3) will take on the University of Iowa (2-4) in its home opener Sunday at 9 a.m. (MT). The Hawkeyes won their season opener against South Alabama before losing four-straight to Florida International, No.7 Texas, Texas Tech and Minnesota. The team recovered with a 4-1 win against Marquette on Feb. 8.
Â
The Buffaloes are coming off of a pair of losses in Texas last weekend. The team dropped a nail-biter to Houston by a score of 4-3, then were swept by SMU 7-0 in Dallas.
Â
The team is led by the freshman duo of Antonia Balzert and Sophia Derivan, both with 13 wins this season. Derivan picked up her first dual singles loss against SMU but leads the team with a 7-1 record. Balzert is 6-2. Both were 1-1 in singles matches for the weekend.
Â
The Buffs had a strong doubles showing in Houston as Derivan and Ky Ecton picked up a win while Maria Campos and Tallulah Farrow clinched the point. Campos and Farrow were 5-1 before the SMU match while Derivan and Ecton were picking up momentum with a 3-1 record.
Â
Colorado returns home for three-straight matches to end the non-conference season, beginning with a match against Wyoming Saturday, Feb. 22, at noon. CU has seven of their next nine matches against the Iowa trip at home and eight of their final 13 matches at home to finish the season.
