SMU Sweeps Colorado In Final Texas Match

DALLAS – Colorado women's tennis program dropped a 7-0 match against Southern Methodist University here Sunday afternoon, leaving the team winless in their trip to Texas.

Colorado (5-3) fell to the undefeated Mustangs (6-0) without picking up a single match. Despite numerous close sets, the team only picked up a single set in the No.4 singles match where Megan Forster took the second set of her match 6-2. She fell in the first set 7-5, then lost a pro-set tiebreaking third to drop the match.

The Buffaloes had set losses of 7-5 or closer in five of the six singles matches. Monica Malinen dropped her first set against Jackie Nylander in the No.1 match 7-6 (9) before getting swept in the second set 6-0. Antonia Balzert, Sophia Derivan and Forster all dropped 7-5 first sets in the No.2, No.3 and No.4 singles matches, respectfully. Balzert fell 6-4 in her second set, while Derivan dropped her first singles match in dual play with a 6-2 second set defeat.

Tallulah Farrow had the closest two-set match in the No.6 spot as she fell 6-4 in the first set and 7-6 in the second. Maria Campos dropped the No.5 singles match 6-2, 6-4.

CU struggled in the doubles point as well as #31-ranked duo of Malinen and Sara Nayar were defeated 6-2 in the No.1 doubles match. Campos and Tallulah fell in the No.3 match 6-3 as the Mustangs clinched the doubles point quickly.

Colorado is back on the road next week with a pair of matches in Iowa against the University of Iowa and Old Dominion.
