CU takes on WSU Thursday night
PULLMAN, Wash. — Colorado heads back out on the road this weekend as the Pac-12 season continues in Washington. The Buffaloes will open the week against Washington State on Thursday night at the Lower Soccer Field (8 p.m. MT).
Â
Colorado (10-3-2, 2-2-2 Pac-12) will hope to end its three-game winless streak against the Cougars. The Buffs have gone 0-1-2 over the last three matches and are coming off a 1-1 draw to No. 13 USC on Saturday.
Â
Shyra James got back to her scoring ways in LA, converting on a penalty kick for the Buffs' lone goal. The goal was her 12th of the season and marked a new career-high for the senior. She continued to lead the Pac-12 in goals and points (26).
Â
"I think it was probably one of our most complete performances on the road— against a top 15 team," head coach Danny Sanchez explained. "Especially after giving an early goal. It could have been easy to hang our heads. But we stuck to the game plan."
Â
Another streak on the line on Thursday night will be the team's five-game unbeaten stretch on the road this season. The Buffs are 4-0-1 this season away from Prentup. It's the team's longest unbeaten streak since going 4-0-2 for a stretch in 2018.
Â
"We've been good on the road this year," Sanchez added. "We have the right mindset and we're excited to get out there. We know the challenges of these matches and the individual talent of the players on these teams. We know how well they're coaches. However, I feel we're in a good place and excited to get out there."
Â
Washington State (8-5-1, 1-4-1 Pac-12) owns an 8-4-1 record over the Buffs. CU's last win against the Cougars came in Boulder in 2018. The two teams tied last season in Pullman, with Civana Kuhlmann getting the Buffs' goal.
Â
WSU's lone conference win this season came in a 2-1 decision at Arizona. The Cougars started Pac-12 play with a three-game stretch against No. 2 Stanford, No. 19 USC and No. 5 UCLA.
 Â
"Washington State has had some good results, but they're kind of in the same boat as we are," Sanchez noted. "They really need another big result in Pac-12 play. That's going to be an NCAA Tournament game [on Thursday]. They'll have a huge crowd. The weather looks good. We'll be ready to go for that."
Â
Thursday's match will be broadcast on Pac-12 Mountain.
