Colorado Finishes Weekend Against Pioneers

Buffs end on high note in Denver

DENVER – The Colorado Buffalo women's tennis team finished out this weekend's dual competition, facing Denver to take a 7-5 record this Sunday, and 23-13 overall in singles and doubles this weekend.
 
Starting the day in doubles, the Buffs split the courts going 2-2. The first win went to Lani Brotman and Heidi Crncan, recording their first match and win as a pair.  The freshmen faced Claudia Martinez de Velasco and Natalie Cinkova at No.3, downing the Pioneers, 6-3.
 
At No. 2 and 4, the Buffs took two close losses to Denver. Pia Rebec and Anya Nelson faced Zoe Adkins and Hana Novak, falling short, 7-5. Willow Gretsch and Yukiko Ikedo followed, falling short to Ruby Hansen and Yunfei Cai, 6-3, at No. 4.
 
Finishing doubles at the top spot, Rixt Van Der Werff and Lera Alexin brought their match to a 7-6 tiebreaker. After a back-and-forth battle, the Buffs came out on top, winning their tiebreak, 10-8.
 
Singles competition brought five more victories for the Buffs to finish out competition against the Pioneers. At the top spot, Van Der Werff defeated Louise Wikander, coming back from a first set deficit. Van Der Werff took the final two sets in a matching 6-3, proving a victory over the 2025 Regional Champion.  
 
Alexin also overcame a first set loss at No. 2, to down Lambert 6-1, 6-4. Alexin completed a perfect sweep of singles and doubles this weekend, going 6-0. "I was trying to find my confidence again after regionals," said the sophomore, "I feel I did a good job of finding my timing and taking the match back in the third set."
 
Rebec and Nelson picked up a pair of straight set wins at No. 3 and 4, coming back from their loss in doubles competition. Rebec defeated Adkins, 6-1, 6-4, and Nelson downed Novak 6-3, 6-2.
 
The final win from the day came from Ikedo at No. 8. Last to get on the courts, Ikedo wasted no time downing Hansen in two, 6-3, 6-2.
 
"Our big theme across our players is to keep getting better, which I saw today," stated head coach Anthony Pham, "We did a lot of great things across the board this weekend, and now we have a couple of weeks of practice until Florida."
 
Up Next
The Buffs take a week off to recover and get ready for a weekend of competition November 7-9th, heading to Florida for the Bonita Bay Classic.
