Graduate attacker Madeline Pisani had her 16th hat trick and reached 100 career points with her first assist of the night

BOULDER – The Colorado lacrosse team (1-3, 0-0 Big 12) defeated No. 25 Army West Point (3-1, 0-0 Patriot League), 12-6, at the CU Indoor Practice Field on Friday, Feb. 28.

The Buffaloes started their match against No. 25 Army with four consecutive goals. By the end of the first half, the Black and Gold had scored seven goals. The Black Knights fought back in the third quarter, but Colorado kept them at bay to bring the Buffaloes to their first win of the season (12-6).

"Even though we had a bad little bit in the third quarter, we were still up," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said after the game. "We just had to control the tempo and execute. I'm proud of them, proud they came out in that fourth quarter."

Graduate attacker Madeline Pisani's assist in the fourth quarter brought her to 100 career points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Shoup wasted no time making an impact in the Buffs' home opener, scoring an early man-down goal to put Colorado on the board. She struck again minutes later, this time off an assist from Hill, giving CU a 2-0 lead. The energetic feedback from the home crowd fueled Hill to notch her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Dodd, extending the Buffs' advantage to 3-0. Army responded with its first goal at the 6:12 mark, but Pence quickly responded with a goal of her own. Colorado's defense held strong, closing out the first quarter with a mushrooming 4-1 lead.
  • Peluso secured the opening draw control of the second period, setting the tone for a hard-fought quarter. Both teams locked in defensively, holding each other scoreless for nearly 13 minutes. Pisani bought into the electric crowd by ending the scoring drought with her seventh goal of the season, pushing CU ahead 5-1. Less than a minute later, Shoup buried her third goal of the night to secure a hattrick, followed by Hill's fifth to cap off a dominant second quarter. The Buffs came out on top again at the half, 7-1.
  • The Black Knights came out swinging in the third, capitalizing on a free position shot to cut into CU's lead. A turnover from Dodd at 7:25 gave Army another opportunity, but goalkeeper Oh made a key save
before Army eventually broke through with its third goal of the night. Despite a strong Buffaloes defense, Army found momentum and tacked on two more, closing the gap to 7-5 heading into the final period.
  • Colorado took control in the fourth and never looked back. Oh set the tone with a crucial ground ball, leading to a quick strike from Pisani to make it 8-5, CU. Pence kept the pressure on, netting her third goal of the season just moments later. Dodd then set up Pisani for her ninth, extending the lead to 10-5. The Buffs didn't let up, as sophomore attacker Teagan Ryan delivered back-to-back goals – her fourth and fifth of the season, giving CU a commanding 12-5 advantage. Despite a last-minute goal from Army, Colorado closed out the night with a dominant 12-6 victory.
