
Colorado Lacrosse Falls to No. 5 Michigan at Kittredge Field

BOULDER – The Colorado lacrosse team (1-4, 0-0 Big 12) fell to No. 5 Michigan (5-2, 0-0 Big Ten), 12-7, at Kittredge Field on Saturday, Mar. 8.
Despite holding Michigan scoreless in the first quarter, the Buffs were defeated by the Wolverines.
"We just [have] to do a better job making plays," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said after the game. "We had some scenarios where I felt like we were in the right position [...] We have to find a way to make some more stops individually and, in some of these moments, find a way to compete better."

KEY PLAYERS:
- Gr. Attacker Morgan Pence earned her ninth hat trick from her three goals. She is tied for 13th all-time hat trick leaders.
- Gr. Attacker Madeline Pisani scored one goal and had one assist.
- Gr. Attacker Kendall Havill scored two goals for the Buffs.
- Jr. Midfielder Maddie Shoup had one ground ball and one caused turnover.
- So. Attacker Teagan Ryan scored one goal.
- Jr. Midfielder Lily Assini had three assists and four draw controls.
- Fr. Goalkeeper Elena Oh had two ground balls and10 saves, saving .455 of all shots. This is her second game in a row with double-digit saves.
- Jr. Defender Jess Peluso had three ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover.
- So. Midfielder Averi Gardner had one ground ball and one draw control.
- Jr. M Molly Reed and Gr. D Jordan Johnson each had one ground ball, one caused turnover and one draw control.
- So. A Jaimey Hill and So. D Lola Flynn each had a ground ball and Sr. D Katie McLean had a draw control.
- For Michigan, Jill Smith scored five goals and Kaylee Dyer scored three.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Buffaloes started the game with a goal from Havill (1-0 CU). Michigan got their chance to score from a free position shot, but Oh stopped their efforts with her second save of the game. After continuous attempts from both the Buffs and the Wolves, the first quarter ended with the Buffs up 1-0.
- Colorado started the second quarter with the same energy and an early goal from Ryan (2-0, CU). With a little over five minutes left in the quarter, Michigan scored their first goal (2-1, CU). However, the Black and Gold quickly turned around, and Pence scored her first goal of the game (3-1, CU). With less than a minute left, Michigan scored again, ending the quarter with a score of 3-2 (CU).
- After a shot clock violation from Michigan, the Wolves evened the score (3-3). The Buffs responded with back-to-back goals from Pence, the second with an assist from Assini (5-3, CU). The end of the quarter saw two goals from Michigan, bringing the end of the third to a tie (5-5).
- The Buffs gave up five unanswered goals to start the fourth quarter, but a second goal from Havill put a stop to the Michigan defense (10-6, UM). After another goal from the Wolves, Pisani scored her first goal of the game with an assist from Assini. With a last goal from Michigan, the Buffs fell, 12-7 (UM).

- CU hosts two games next week, one against Marquette on Tuesday and the other against Iona on Saturday. Opening draw against the Golden Eagles is set for 1 p.m. MT on Mar. 11, and opening draw versus Iona is set for 12 p.m. MT on Mar. 15.
