
Buffs Break Records at Bryan Clay; Kit Mayer Classic with Strong Marks

Bianco breaks 50-year-old Decathlon Record
AZUSA, Calif. / GOLDEN — It was a landmark day for Colorado Track and Field, as the Buffaloes shined on two fronts Friday, breaking a 50-year-old school record at the Bryan Clay Invitational in California while opening the Kit Mayer Classic in Golden with solid performances across the throws.
At Azusa Pacific, Nick Bianco delivered a historic performance in the men's decathlon, scoring 7,655 points to break the CU school record set in 1974 by Mike Hill (7,645). Bianco's performance, which included six personal bests and a win in the pole vault, currently ranks sixth in the NCAA this season.
Bryan Clay Highlights:
- Nick Bianco – 7,655 points (1st CU All-Time)
- Personal bests: 100m (11.10), LJ (7.30m), SP (12.32m), 110H (14.33), DT (39.22m), JT (50.52m), 1500m (4:38.12)
- John Swabik – 7,458 points (3rd CU All-Time)
- Personal bests in 5 events; 1st in LJ (7.38m) and 110H (14.36)
- John Bass – 6,618 points (Group C), with a PB in the 400m (51.28) and strong marks in vault and throws
- Marco Martinez – 5,436 points in his first decathlon of the season, notching season bests in LJ, SP, and hurdles
- Eva Bruce – 5,167 points (2nd in Group B), with PBs in the 100H, HJ, 200m (24.35), and javelin
- Riley Burkey – 4,517 points (PB), ran the top 800m time in her group at 2:13.96
- Ava Goetz – 4,799 points, season best in the 200m (27.22), group-leading high jump (1.73m)
The multis capped a successful two days of competition in Azusa, Calif.
In Golden, the Buffs kicked off day one of the Kit Mayer Classic with strong efforts from their throws group.
Kit Mayer Opening Day Highlights:
- Ames Newman in the men's hammer throw toss 54.84m (179-11)
- Lucas Williams followed closely in ninth at 54.38m (178-5)
- In the women's hammer, Elena and Amanda Opp placed fifth (55.95m) and sixth (55.88m), respectively.
- Alaina Fantaski tied for the best throw in the women's javelin with a top mark of 43.79m (143-8).
Colorado returns to action Saturday with a full slate of sprint, distance, relay, and field events to close out the Kit Mayer Classic at Stermole Track and Crouch Field Event Complex.
