Buffs Notch Personal Bests at Border Dual

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A small group from Colorado track and field made the most of its opportunity Saturday at the Border Dual in Fort Collins, recording several personal bests and strong marks against Colorado State and Wyoming.
The women's squad had strong performances in the field events. Freshmen Ava Goetz and sophomore Riley Ward both cleared 1.65 meters (5-4.75) in the high jump, while junior Eva Bruce cleared 1.60 meters (5-2.75).
In the throws, junior Elena Opp recorded a mark of 56.15 meters (184-2.5) in the hammer throw and added a throw of 44.24 meters (145-1.5) in the discus. Freshman Ayianna Johnson recorded a mark of 42.82 meters (140-5.75) in the discus, while junior Amanda Opp competed in both the hammer and discus.
Freshman Riley Burkey achieved personal bests in both the 400 meters and the javelin, while junior Eva Bruce also posted a personal best in the javelin.
On the men's side, senior Nick Bianco cleared 5.05 meters (16-6.75) in the pole vault and recorded a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 53.54 meters (175-7.75). Junior John Swabik also posted a personal best in the javelin with a mark of 51.08 meters (167-7).
Freshman John Bass competed in the javelin and pole vault, while senior Jackson Meyer recorded a jump of 7.04 meters (23-1) in the long jump.
Sophomore Drake Miller recorded personal bests in three events: the shot put (12.75m | 41-10), discus (38.52m | 126-4), and javelin (42.99m | 141-0.5).
The meet served as a tune-up for the Buffs ahead of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, May 9–11 in Lawrence, Kan.
Up next, the sprint group will travel to Arizona for the Desert Classic, while the rest of the team will head north to Fort Collins for the Doug Max Invitational.
