Buffs Roll To Exhibition Win Over Gold Coast
July 29, 2025 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER – Colorado remained on a roll in picking up a 100-88 win over the Gold Coast Rollers, Tuesday evening locally (early morning in Boulder), at the Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium in Gold Coast, Australia.
After scoring 92 points in Saturday's opener in Melbourne, the Buffaloes dominated Gold Coast in the paint and on the glass to reach the century mark in collecting their second win during their four-game exhibition tour of Australia.
Colorado outscored the Rollers 50-30 in the paint. The Buffaloes turned 22 offensive boards into 33 second-chance points and outrebounded the Rollers by 11 (48-37).
It was a well-balanced effort for the Buffaloes. Six players scored in double figures while six collected at least four rebounds. Second-year graduate Elijah Malone topped the team in scoring with 15 points, hitting 6 of 7 from the field, missing only on a 3-point attempt.
The freshman backcourt duo of Josiah Sanders and Ian Inman co-led Colorado in rebounding with seven apiece. Sanders had 14 points, hitting 5 of 6 from the field and 4 of 5 from the line, along with three assists. Inman finished with 10 points.
Junior guard Barrington Hargress had 12 points, including a perfect 7 of 7 from the free throw line, with three assists and a pair of steals. Freshman center Leonardo Van Elswyk had had 14 points on 6 of 12 shooting.
Sophomore Sebastian Rancik had 12 points, adding a pair of 3-point field goals.
Overall, Colorado shot 44 percent from the field and, for the second-straight game, dished out at least 20 assists, logging 21 on Tuesday.
"Another hard-fought game," Colorado head coach Tad Boyle said. "Great team effort against a gritty, tough Australian NBL 1 team. Our team is coming together, and our guys are bonding both on, and off the court. That is what these trips are all about. six different players with 10 points or more, and five different guys with at least five rebounds. Both very good signs of what type of team we can become."
Gold Coast, an NBL1 North team that competes in the Gold Coast City Regional Basketball Association, was led by Preston Le Gassick, who scored a game-high 20 points and dished out seven assists.
The Buffaloes now prepare for the marquee event of their trip, a match-up with the Boomers, Australia's Men's National Team, on Thursday, July 31, at 6:30 p.m. local / 2:30 a.m. MT. The game will be streamed live back to the U.S. on ESPN+.
