Freshman earns honorable mention to the All-Big 12 Conference Team
BOULDER – University of Colorado freshman guard Isaiah Johnson was named co-Big 12 Conference Player and Newcomer of the Week for men's basketball games played the week of March 2-8.
Johnson shared both awards with Baylor's Tounde Yessoufou. Those two joined BYU's AJ Dybantsa and Rob Wright and Kansas' Tre White on the Big 12 Starting Five.
Johnson averaged a Big 12-best 25.0 points along with 4.5 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in games against Utah and No. 2 Arizona last week. He shot 54.2 percent from the field and 94.7 percent from the free throw line.
Against Arizona, Johnson recorded his team-best ninth 20-point game of the season with a team season-high 28 against Arizona, hitting 7 of 14 from the field and 10 of 11 from the free throw line. Against Utah, Johnson had 22 points, hitting 6 of 10 from the field and a perfect 8 of 8 from the line. He added four assists and three steals against the Utes and a team-best five assists against the Wildcats.
Johnson became Colorado's freshman season scoring leader during the Arizona game. Now with 526, he passed Alec Burks, who had 512 in 2009-10.
Johnson is Colorado's first Big 12 Player of the Week since the Buffaloes rejoined the conference last season. Burks was Colorado's last Big 12 Player of the Week honoree, Feb. 8, 2011.
Voted on by a media panel covering the Big 12, the Starting Five is a weekly award in its first year that honors strong performances across the conference. Johnson is Colorado's second Starting Five honoree this season, joining Bangot Dak who earned the honor Feb. 23.
BIG 12 HONORS: Johnson also earned honorable mention to the 2025-26 All-Big 12 Team the league office announced Monday. He ranks third in the Big 12 and 15th in the nation in scoring by freshmen at 17.0 points per game. Overall on the Big 12 charts he is 11th in free throw percentage and 13th in scoring. Johnson is on pace to become the eighth freshman to lead Colorado in scoring for the entire season. It's the second-straight year the Buffaloes had a player earn honorable mention to the All-Big 12 team as guard Julian Hammond III represented Colorado in this spot in 2024-25.
