Buffs Close Weekend With Five Top 10 Marks

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Colorado track and field wrapped up competition Saturday with a strong finish, capping the weekend with five all-time top 10 marks and numerous personal bests across three meets.

Avery Pearson continued her standout weekend at the Bryan Clay Invitational, doubling back after her No. 2 all-time 800-meter performance to run 53.90 in the 400 meters. The mark ranks No. 5 in program history and gives Pearson two top 10 performances on the weekend.

Freshman Teagan Malcom added a personal-best performance in the 400-meter hurdles, running 52.40 to place 12th overall at Bryan Clay.

At the Mt. SAC Relays, Danny Tragarz competed in the elite section of the 400-meter hurdles, tying his personal best of 50.48 to place fifth overall as the third collegian in the field.

To close out the night, Kole Mathison delivered a breakthrough performance in the elite 1500 meters at Bryan Clay, clocking a personal-best 3:40.83 to place 19th in a loaded field. The time moves him to No. 8 all-time in Colorado history.

Colorado's five top 10 marks on the weekend came from Pearson (800m – No. 2; 400m – No. 5), Lucas Williams (hammer throw – No. 5), James Overberg (5000m – No. 10) and Mathison (1500m – No. 8).

NEXT UP: The Buffs will take next weekend off before returning to action May 3 at the Doug Max Invitational in Fort Collins, hosted by Colorado State University.
