Distance Buffs Shine at Bryan Clay Invitational

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Colorado track and field competed across three meets Thursday and Friday, highlighted by Avery Pearson's No. 2 all-time performance in the women's 800 meters at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

Pearson led the way for the Buffs, running 2:00.91 in the elite section of the 800 meters to place fourth overall. Her time ranks No. 2 in Colorado history and No. 5 in the NCAA this season.
THURSDAY: Dean Casey opened the weekend with a strong performance in the men's 10,000 meters, running a personal-best 28:17.16 to place 11th in the invitational section. The mark improves his own No. 6 all-time standing at Colorado.
FRIDAY: Riley Burkey got the day started in the women's 800 meters, running a personal-best 2:09.42 to break 2:10 for the first time in her career.
In the distance events, James Overberg posted a personal-best 13:32.53 in the men's 5000 meters to move to No. 10 all-time at Colorado, placing fifth in his heat. Jessie Secor followed with a personal-best 15:30.66 in a highly competitive women's 5000-meter field, improving her own No. 9 mark in program history and placing 15th.
Freshman Holly Barker also impressed in the women's 5000 meters, breaking 16 minutes for the first time with a 15:55.42 performance to place third in her heat, while Keegan Smith dipped under 14 minutes for the first time in the men's 5000 meters, running 13:58.75 to place eighth in his heat.
In the field events, Lucas Williams recorded a major personal best in the men's hammer throw, launching a mark of 61.65 meters (202-3) to move to No. 5 all-time at Colorado.
Colorado continues competition Sunday at 12 p.m. MT.
