No. 15 Colorado Heads to Florida for Battle Against the Gators

April 02, 2026 | Lacrosse

BOULDER – The 15th ranked Colorado women's lacrosse team (7-2, 1-0 Big 12) will travel to Gainesville, Fla, to take on No. 5 Florida (8-2, 1-0 Big 12) on Saturday, April 4, at 10 a.m. MT.

The Buffaloes saw victory over San Diego State in their conference home opener on Saturday, Mar. 28 (16-5). Senior defender Jess Peluso dominated in the draw circle, reaching eight draw controls and also causing five turnovers. Sophomore goalkeeper Elena Oh had eight saves.

Senior midfielder Lily Assini led the game with six points from four goals and two assists, and senior attackers Maddie Shoup and Rachel Kennedy each earned a hat trick. Assini and Shoup both reached 100 career points in the match up with the Aztecs.

"[Assini and Shoup] are two awesome competitors for us," head coach Ann Elliott Whidden said. "Obviously, that senior class brings so much to this team in every single aspect. For those two, they're two very competitive people that really care about this team and are willing to do whatever it takes to help this team move forward."

On Wednesday, April 1, the Big 12 announced that Assini and Peluso earned weekly conference awards. Assini received Midfielder of the Week, and Peluso got Draw Specialist of the Week. Colorado now has 12 weekly conference awards this season.

Saturday's game will be the sixth time the teams have met in program history. The Buffs are currently 0-5 against the Gators and are seeking their first win.

This will be Colorado's fifth ranked match up of the season. Earlier this year, the Buffs took on then No. 2 Northwestern, defeating them in the season opener, 10-9 (Feb. 9). CU also beat then No. 22 Army, 13-6, on Mar. 1.
