NAPA, Calif. — Standout performances from Vanessa Ngo and Maya McVey have the Colorado women's golf team well positioned on the individual and team leaderboard following Tuesday's second round of the 2026 Chevron Silverado Showdown.
Ngo had the second-best score in the 88-player field on the day with a 68, and sits in a four-way tie for third place at 4-under-par heading into Wednesday's final round at the Silverado Resort and Spa's North Course. McVey had her second-straight strong effort of the tournament with a spring-season best 70 and is in a three-way tie for ninth at 2-under.
McVey led No. 48-ranked Colorado in the team race as the Buffaloes jumped up one spot into a tie for eighth place with a team round of 7-over, two shots better than Monday. Colorado and No. 45 Oregon State are both at 16-over, only six shots out of third with 18 holes remaining.
Second-ranked USC and No. 26 Eastern Michigan have pulled away in the team competition. The Trojans are 17-under through two rounds with the Eagles five strokes back at 12-under. No. 5 Oregon and Nebraska are a distant third at 10-over.
Ngo was nearly flawless in recording her third round in the 60s of the season and matching her best single round score in relation to par at 4-under. Playing as an individual, Ngo started with five-straight pars before a bogey at the par-4 sixth. She immediately gained that stroke back with a birdie at the par-3 seventh and took off from there.
Finishing off the front nine at even, Ngo proceeded to play the back at 4-under, finishing off her round with birdies on the par 5s at the 16th and 18th.
"I knew I had to be patient and saw from the practice round and yesterday that I could capitalize on the back," Ngo said. "Even after the bogey (on six) I knew there were a lot of birdie opportunities coming."
Ngo enters Wednesday's final round just two shots off the individual lead held by Eastern Michigan's Janae Leovao, whose second round of 65 put her at 6-under.
McVey's round was just as spectacular. She made par on 16 holes, and the other two? Birdies at the 345-yard par-4 third and the 138-yard par-3 11th.
"Really impressive stuff from Maya today," Colorado head coach Madeleine Sheils said. "This is a PGA Tour golf course, and to get around bogey-free says a lot about how you are able to manage mistakes and have a great short game. Really great stuff from her today."
Carolyn Fuller is tied for 22nd at 2-over after an even-par 72 on Tuesday, and she rallied to get there. Starting on the back, Fuller was even through 13 and then got to 1-under with a birdie at the par-5 fifth. She dropped back to 1-over with back-to-back bogeys at the seventh and eighth, but finished off her round with an eagle on the 491-yard par-5 ninth. After a great drive, she found herself 210 yards out. Utilizing her 5-wood, she was on the green in two and sank a 30-foot putt for her team-best fourth eagle of the season.
Ellen O'Shaughnessy is tied for 47th overall after a 78 in the second round. Freshman Ananthi Vivek also shot 78 on Tuesday and is tied for 75th at 12-over. Teemapat Pateetin is one shot behind her classmate at 13-over after a round of 75.
Brenna Higgins, playing as an individual, is tied for 25th at 3-over after a round of 74 on Tuesday which saw her make par on 17 of 18 holes.
"We are competing hard right now," Sheils said. "Definitely could have used a few more putts to fall our way, but we are putting ourselves in great positions. As I told the team, it's about staying positive. They have the capabilities and we're going to go out there and fight our hardest tomorrow."
Colorado will match up with Cincinnati, San Jose State and UC Davis in Wednesday's final round as those groups begin between the fifth and ninth holes with a shot gun start at 9:30 a.m. MT.
