Buffaloes Prepped For First Road Game Of The Season

August 26, 2026 | Soccer

BOULDER – The undefeated Colorado Buffaloes soccer team will hit the road for the first time of the 2026 season to face Western Michigan on Thursday.

Colorado is coming off a 3-0 start for the first time since 2022. The team's last victory came against Cal State Fullerton at Prentup Field, where they earned a 3-2 win behind goals from Michaela McGowan, Ruby Hayward, and Reagan Kotschau

The Buffaloes dictated the match's rhythm offensively, registering 22 shots to Cal State's nine. Defensively, goalkeeper Brooke Goerish recorded three crucial saves in the second half, which helped the team secure the win. Goerish and junior Jamie Campbell have shared goalkeeping duties for the Black and Gold this season, with each playing one half in all three matches

Team captain Kotschau has also been a highlight for the Buffs this season. The midfielder leads the squad with seven points and is tied with Michaela McGowan for most goals in the season, with three each.

Western Michigan has played two matches so far in 2026, earning a draw against the University of Idaho and a win against the University of Hawaii. The team won the MAC in 2025 and was picked number one in the 2026 conference's Preseason Coaches Poll.

Colorado will now turn its attention to its first road test of the season and the start of a two-match swing through Michigan.

"It's a good time to get on the road," head coach Danny Sanchez said. "We're slowly getting a little bit healthier, so that's good. It's a great competition, and couldn't be more excited at the start of the season and the kind of direction of everything."

The Buffaloes will look to extend their season-opening winning streak on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 2 p.m., in Kalamazoo, Mich. as they face their first road challenge of the season. Colorado will then remain in the Great Lakes State to face Michigan State on Aug. 30.
