Colorado Welcomes Lobos To Prentup

BOULDER – The Colorado Buffaloes soccer team returns to Prentup Field on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. to take on New Mexico.
Thursday's matchup will feature the Running of Ralphie, with Colorado's live mascot scheduled to lead the team onto the field shortly after the national anthem, weather permitting.
"We're excited to be back home at Prentup Thursday night against New Mexico," head coach Danny Sanchez said. "Obviously, we hope everyone shows up early to watch Ralphie run. New Mexico is a very good team, 2-1 after a great start to the season."
The Black and Gold enter Thursday looking to extend their 18-game home unbeaten streak after returning from a two-match road swing that concluded with a 3-2 loss at No. 3 Michigan State.
Colorado fell into an early hole against the Spartans but responded with a strong second-half push, scoring twice to work its way back into the match.
Reagan Kotschau opened the scoring for the Buffs, finishing a chance set up by Lexi Meyer.
Hope Leyba later pulled Colorado within one on a sister-to-sister connection. Emma Thielbar flicked the ball ahead to Faith Leyba on the right side, and Faith sent a cross into the box for Hope, who finished the chance.
The Buffs carried the momentum throughout the second half but were unable to complete the comeback, taking their first loss of the season.
A Look at the Lobos
New Mexico arrives in Boulder following a 3-2 victory over CSUN on Sunday, improving to 2-1 on the season.
The Lobos struck quickly, scoring three times in the opening 28 minutes to build an early advantage. Nicole Anderson accounted for two of the goals, including one from the penalty spot, while Celina Frenz scored her first goal as a Lobo. Alysa Whelchel contributed a career-high two assists.
New Mexico carried a 3-1 lead into halftime before CSUN converted a penalty kick in the 67th minute to cut the deficit to one. The Lobos held off the Matadors the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Shots were even at 15 apiece, but New Mexico held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. Goalkeeper Alyson Campbell made one save in the win.
