Buffaloes Ready For Rocky Mountain Adventure

BOULDER – One week after a successful trip to the Pacific Northwest, the Colorado women's golf team looks to carry that momentum this week in their own backyard in the Rocky Mountains.
Colorado is set to participate in the GolfWeek Red Sky Classic, Sept. 21-23, on the Fazio Course at Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo., just outside of Vail.
The Buffaloes are one of 20 teams competing at the Red Sky Classic, which will feature three rounds of 18-holes each day. The field spans a good portion of the country, including a pair of Big 12 Conference teams in Arizona and Kansas and Southeast Conference teams in Texas A&M and LSU.
Old Pac-12 Conference and current Big Ten rival USC is in the mix as is Eastern Michigan, who the Buffaloes just saw at the season-opening Leadership & Golf Invitational last week at Chambers Bay in University Park, Wash.
The Buffaloes finished second to Eastern Michigan at the Leadership and Golf Invitational as the Eagles repeated their title from a year ago at 1-under-par. Colorado finished 6-over as the runner-up, a 28-stroke improvement from a year ago.
Colorado will feature the same lineup this week at the Red Sky Classic, led by senior Maya McVey who was the overall runner-up at Chambers Bay at 6-under. McVey's final line last week was a 71 in the first round, a career-best 69 in the second, and then a 70 in the final round, making her the 11th Colorado women's golfer to go under par in all three rounds of a tournament.
Sophomore Teemapat Pateetin is coming off her fourth career top-20 finish, tying for 17th overall at 4-over. She's joined by senior Carolyn Fuller, last season's overall stroke leader, junior Ellen O'Shaughnessy and sophomore Brenna Higgins.
First-year golfer Isabella Piazza will be making her collegiate debut for the Buffaloes, playing as an individual.
Colorado will group with Arizona, Little Rock and East Tennessee State in Monday's first round with those pairings starting off the No. 10 tee beginning at 10:12 a.m. Piazza will tee off at 12:12 p.m., also off the No. 10 tee, with individuals from LSU, USC and Denver.
