Colorado Opens 2026 Season At Wyoming Invitational

BOULDER — The No. 18 women's and No. 6 men's Colorado cross country teams will open the 2026 season on Friday, Sept. 4, at the Wyoming Invitational in Cheyenne, Wyo. The meet will be held at the Little America Golf Course, with the men's event starting at 6 p.m. and the women's race starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Buffaloes are coming off a strong 2025 season. The men's team finished 10th at the NCAA national championships and third at the Big 12 Championships, while the women's team placed 13th and fifth, respectively.
"I'm excited to get the cross country season started," Head Coach Sean Carlson said. "We return the big pieces from our rosters last year and we have a lot of new additions."
Along with returning talent, Carlson highlighted the team's culture and mentality as another source of optimism heading into the season.
"I think the culture of the program in general has gone the right direction," said Carlson. "We have people that want to be here, want to do the right things and want to live the right lifestyle."
Colorado will line up against host Wyoming, Central Wyoming College, Colorado State and the University of Northern Colorado in Cheyenne. Last year, the Black and Gold secured the team title in the men's race and placed second in the women's competition.
Eleven Buffaloes will compete in the event:
Women's 5k (6): Riley Burkey, Addison Dorenkamp, Ella Hagen, Polina Krupsky, Rowan Saacke, Beana Winchell
Men's 5k (5): Ty Cirino, Lukas Haug, Wil Ihmels, Carter Prater, Charles Robertson
