Alexin, Bubalo Set To Compete At Battle In The Bay

SAN FRANCISCO - Fall play will continue for the Colorado Buffaloes tennis team Oct. 1-4, with two players set to represent the Buffs at the ITA Battle of the Bay Classic. Play will begin Thursday morning at the California Tennis Club.Â
Returning players Lera Alexin and Ema Bubalo will make the second appearances of their fall slate, having traveled to Wisconsin at the beginning of the month to compete in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, where they brought home multiple dominant doubles wins and singles victories.
The 32 singles and 16 doubles draw tournament will begin Thursday and play through Friday, a wildcard shootout will follow on Saturday before finals conclude on Sunday afternoon.Â
Last year, the duo brought home a pair of wins in singles play to conclude their trip to the Bay.Â
"Fortunately for them, they got to play the same tournament last year," CU Head Coach Anthony Pham said. "It's a good experience for the players and the level is always very high. I know both Emma and Lera are looking forward to the opportunity to try and compete against some very good players and having already had some matches under their belt with Milwaukee, I think is very helpful for them."
The California Tennis Club, the oldest tennis club west of the Mississippi, has remained home to the tournament since its inaugural year in 2009 with the first women's tournament being hosted in 2016.
"They always do such a great job running the tournament," Pham said. "It's held at the California Tennis Club, which is like one of the oldest, most prestigious clubs in California."
