ORONO, Maine -- Colorado's Monique Gerlach had a match-high 19 kills to lead the Buffaloes to a three-game sweep of Maine, 30-22, 30-24, 30-28 in the Maine Sea-Sun Invitational on Sunday.
CU placed second in the tournament with a 3-1 record. Penn State won the team title at 4-0. Maine is now 2-2. Gerlach was the lone Buff selected to the six-person All-Tournament team.
Gerlach hit .533, netting just three errors on 30 attempts. She picked up nine digs and a pair of block assists.
Sophomore outside Nicole Carr recorded her fourth-straight double-double. Carr had 15 kills, a match high 18 digs and hit a solid .375 (15kills-3 errors-32 attacks). Junior setter Allison Barnes registered her first double-double with 43 kill assists and 10 digs. CU hit .255 (58 kills-23 errors-137 attacks) and had 66 digs.
"It was a good opening weekend for us," CU head coach Pi'i Aiu said. "We've got a lot to work on but its a good start. We now have something to build on."
The Buffaloes will continue preseason tournament action on Friday, Sept. 5, against Central Florida at the Denver Invitational. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
