Givens, Secor and Cherry Top 5 in CU Performance List

BOSTON — The University of Colorado track and field distance team delivered in Boston, at the 2025 John Thomas Terrier Classic, held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. The team was led by standout Isaiah Givens, who climbed to No. 2 in CU history in the 3,000 meters with a time of 7:45.01.

The Buffs sent 10 athletes to Boston, and the squad did not disappoint. Nine athletes set personal bests, while one runner competed in his first collegiate 3,000-meter race and placed 30th.

The women's team opened the competition on Friday. Katja Bauerle finished 27th out of 197 runners in the mile with a personal-best time of 4:41.36. Jessica Secor placed 18th out of 167 in the 3,000 meters, clocking a personal-best 9:02.81, which ranks among CU's top-10 performances in the event.

The men's team also shined, with Givens leading the way. He finished fifth overall and was the top collegiate finisher in the 3,000 meters. Nine of the 10 CU men placed in the top 30: Chris Cherry (9th, 7:48.03), Kole Mathison (19th, 7:52.66, improving his previous mark by 28 seconds), Grady Rauba (20th, 7:52.66), Lukas Haug (25th, 7:56.08), Charles Robertson (29th, 7:57.53), Wilson George (30th, 7:58.15, in his first collegiate 3,000-meter race), and Ethan Edgemont (34th, 8:00.17).

The meet, one of the most popular on the distance-running circuit, featured 232 men in the 3,000-meter race alone.

The CU distance squad will take a week off before returning to Boston for the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Valentine's Day weekend. The men will compete on Feb. 14, followed by the women on Feb. 15.
