
Buffs Compete on Three Fronts in Indoor Track and Field Action

LUBBOCK, Texas; BOSTON; and COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado's indoor track and field team competed in three different locations this past weekend. The distance squad traveled to Boston, with the men competing Friday, while the sprint group raced in Lubbock, Texas, at the Texas Tech Invitational. The women's distance team competed Saturday, while the multi-event athletes and throwers competed in Colorado Springs. The sprint squad concluded competition Saturday.
CU recorded several personal bests, highlighted by Jessie Secor climbing to second on CU's all-time performance list in the 3,000 meters.
Lubbock, Texas
Freshman Myla Wilkes continued her strong campaign, finishing seventh in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 23.93.
Five Buffs set personal bests, while the relay team clocked a season-best time.
Results:
- 60m: Women: Cydnee Taylor – First round, 37th (7.71).
- 400m: Women: Aubrey Leneweaver – 24th (56.06, PB); Emma Pollak – 28th (56.38). Men: Danny Tragarz – 14th (47.59); Nick Gehring – 40th (48.65).
- 200m: Women: Myla Wilkes – Seventh (23.93, PB). Men: Did not compete.
- 600y: Women: Abby Miller – Third (1:22.97, PB). Men: Cole Romig – Fourth (1:10.33, PB); AJ Glavicic – 11th (1:10.93, PB).
- 4x400m Relay: Women: Lenweaver, Pollack, Miller, and Wilkes – Seventh (3:43.28, SB). Men: Tragarz, Glavicic, Gehring, and Romig – Seventh (3:10.0, SB).
Jessie Secor moved up to No. 2 on CU's all-time performance list, finishing eighth in the 3,000 meters at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
The men's distance group continued to show improvement, recording multiple personal bests in back-to-back meets.
Drew Costelow led the charge, dropping five seconds from his personal best in the mile, finishing in 4:01.93.
Chris Cherry was the highest finisher for CU, placing 13th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 7:47.63, shaving six-tenths of a second off his previous best.
Dean Casey continued his momentum in the 5,000 meters, recording another personal best with a time of 13:37.14.
Kole Mathison and Charles Robertson made their 5,000-meter indoor debuts, with Mathison finishing 39th.

- 3,000m: Men: Chris Cherry – 13th (7:47.63, PB), sixth among collegiate runners. Women: Jessie Secor – Eighth (8:50.64, PB, No. 2 CU all-time), second among collegians; Katja Baeuerle – 37th (9:12.11, PB).
- 5,000m: Men: Dean Casey – 26th (13:37.14, PB); Grady Rauba – 33rd (13:39.23, PB); Kole Mathison – 39th (13:42.54); Lukas Haug – 49th (13:46.22, PB); Charles Robertson – 73rd (13:54.93); Wilson Georges – 74th (13:55.42). Women: Abbey Nechanicky – 34th (16:03.96); Natalie Cook – DNF.
CU's multi-event athletes shined at the Mountain Lion Open, with Eva Bruce (60m hurdles), Allie Routledge (long jump), and Ava Goetz (high jump) all securing victories with personal bests.

Men: Nick Bianco – Third in prelims (8.13q), fourth in finals (8.16); Marco Martinez – 16th in prelims (9.48), did not advance.
- 60m: Women: Did not compete. Men: Cade Vanhout – Sixth in prelims (6.98q), did not start finals.
- Long Jump: Women: Allie Routledge – First (5.83m, PB); Riley Burkey – Seventh (5.56m); Eva Bruce – Ninth (5.44m). Men: Aidan Christiansen – Second (6.93m); John Bass – Sixth (6.31m); Marco Martinez – Eighth (6.08m).
- High Jump: Women: Ava Goetz – First (1.76m, PB); Riley Ward and Allie Routledge – Tied for second (1.70m). Men: Noah Bouchard – First (2.04m); Marco Martinez – No height; Drake Miller – Did not start.
- Shot Put: Women: Elena Opp – Ninth (11.80m, PB); Amanda Opp – 11th (11.52m). Men: Lucas Williams – Fifth (15.03m); Ames Newman – Seventh (14.26m).
- Weight Throw: Women: Amanda Opp – Third (16.79m). Men: Lucas Williams – Sixth (17.26m); Ames Newman – Ninth (15.28m).
- Pole Vault: Men: Nick Bianco – Third (4.98m); Drake Miller – Sixth (4.53m, tied); John Bass – 10th (4.08m).
The Buffs' distance squad will send select athletes to the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame next week before preparing for the Big 12 Indoor Championship in Lubbock, Texas, from Feb. 27 to March 1.
