Colorado Posts Strong Results at Kit Mayer Classic

Golden -- The Colorado track and field team continues to progress as the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships inch closer. Several Buffaloes knocked down personal bests, underclassmen stepped up with standout efforts, and the team closed out a productive weekend at the Kit Mayer Classic.
Nick Gehring recorded a personal best of 21.44 in the 200 meters, while AJ Glavicic ran the fastest 400-meter time of the day at 46.65, also a personal best. Lucas Williams led the way in the hammer throw with a new personal best of 54.38 meters, improving on his previous mark of 49.32m.
Will Houser ran a season-best 1:51.56 in the 800 meters, and Tyler Scholl posted the top time in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 9:41.98.
On the women's side, Myla Wilkes continued her strong start to the season, winning the 100 meters with a personal best of 11.65—her fourth event win of the outdoor season. Nylah Perry ran the fastest times of the day in both the 200 and 400 meters. Helen Carlson turned in a season-best 2:11.23 in the 800 meters for the top finish in the field.
Emma Hadley's breakout performance in the 1500 meters was a season-best 4:30.80, the fastest time of the day. Caroline Mehlhorn followed with 4:32.64, the third-fastest time, and Sierra Parks, making her collegiate debut in the event, ran 4:36.84, the fourth-fastest time of the day.
Abby Miller ran a season-best 1:01.04 in the 400-meter hurdles to place fifth. In the throws, Ayianna Johnson made her collegiate debut in the discus with a 44.54-meter mark, the seventh-best on the day, followed by teammates Amanda and Elena Opp. Alaina Fantaski finished second in the javelin with a throw of 43.79 meters.
Up next, the Buffs will split squads across three meets. The distance group will travel to the Bryan Clay Invitational, sprinters will head to the Mt. SAC Relays, and the remainder of the team will return to Golden for the Mines Pre-Conference Meet.
