Buffs Complete Day One on the West Coast

Torrance, Calif.; Azusa, Calif. – The Colorado track and field team opened competition at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the 65th annual Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday, highlighted by several seasons and personal bests from the Buffaloes.

The javelin crew kicked things off in Torrance with strong performances. Alaina Fantaski threw 46.24 meters, just shy of her personal best of 46.37 meters set last month at the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Early Bird meet in Pueblo. On the men's side, Gustavo Alfonso posted a season-best mark of 61.07 meters, narrowly missing his career best of 61.37 meters set in May 2023.

Bryan Clay Invitational
Thirteen CU distance runners competed in a packed Thursday slate at the Bryan Clay Invitational, which stretched from 8:23 a.m. to 11:08 p.m. (PT) in Azusa.
  • Sierra Parks opened the day with a time of 17:37.88 in the women's 5,000 meters.
  • Caroline Mehlhorn ran a season-best 17:08.73 during the morning open session of the 5,000 meters.
  • In the evening section of the 800 meters, Helen Carlson clocked a season-best 2:09.01, while Elliot Pribramsky followed in 2:11.42.
  • Will Houser narrowly missed a personal best, finishing in 1:51.92 in the men's 800 meters.
  • Charles Robertson ran a personal best of 13:48.35 in the 5,000 meters, while Wilson George crossed in 14:06.24.
  • Dean Casey shattered his previous outdoor personal best of 14:00.26, finishing in 13:33.78.
  • Abbey Nechanicky also delivered a standout performance, running a personal-best 16:01.07 in the women's 5,000 meters, a 31-second improvement.
The Buffs will return to the track Friday to wrap up the Bryan Clay distance events with the 1,500 meters. More than 90 heats are scheduled, with 16 athletes per heat.
