Buffs Move Into Eighth At Ron Moore
October 03, 2026 | Women's Golf
HIGHLANDS RANCH – The Colorado women's golf team is in eighth place at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate after Saturday's second round at the University of Denver Golf Club.
Â
Colorado is 10-over-par after 36 holes on the par-72, 6,620-yard DU course. The Buffaloes were 6-over on Saturday, two strokes higher than the first round, but the effort was enough to move up two spots in the standings as the field was well over par for the day. Colorado finds itself five strokes out of the top five heading into Sunday's final round.
Â
UNLV holds the second-round lead at 8-under and was the only team to play in the red on Saturday. Tulane, which led after Friday's first round, slipped to second, one stroke behind the Rebels.
Â
Colorado found opportunities to move up throughout the round and had a flurry of birdies toward the end, as the four Buffaloes that counted toward the team score collectively went 4-under over the final five holes. But early mistakes offset that, leading to bogeys and doubles.
Â
"It was a disappointing day today," Colorado Head Coach Madeleine Sheils said. "We just didn't play with any sharpness from inside 100 yards and that cost us. This team always competes to the very end and we expect to give it our all over the final 18 holes."
Â
Senior Maya McVey is tied for 18th overall at even par through 36 holes. She shot 72 once again on Saturday, needing a little comeback to get there. McVey was 1-under through nine, but hit her toughest stretch of the fall, playing the first through fourth at 3-over. She rallied down the stretch, closing with birdies at the seventh and ninth to register her fifth straight even-par round.
Â
Sophomore Brenna Higgins is tied for 20th at 1-over after carding a 73 in the second round. Junior Ellen O'Shaughnessy is tied for 35th after shooting a 75 on Saturday. Senior Carolyn Fuller is tied for 47th at 7-over, shooting a 74 in the second round. Sophomore Ananthi Vivek is tied for 66th at 10-over.
Â
Freshman Isabella Piazza and sophomore Teemapat Pateetin are tied for 77th at 13-over. Pateetin had the lower of Colorado's two individuals with a 7
Â
Tulane's Sophia Macias, who shared the first-round lead, took sole possession after a 71 on Saturday that put her at 6-under and enters Sunday's final rounds with a one-stroke lead.
Â
Colorado will play an all-Front Range group in Sunday's final round, paired with Northern Colorado and Denver. Those groups will begin between the seventh and 10th holes, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Pateetin and Piazza will play together along with individuals from UTSA and Denver, beginning at the 17th.
