BOULDER — The Colorado Buffaloes Soccer team will honor its seniors and look to take a five-match winning streak into the postseason when it hosts Oklahoma State Thursday, Nov. 5, at Prentup Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
The Buffs (13-4-1, 7-3-0 Big 12) have won four straight matches, including three consecutive shutouts, entering the regular-season finale. Colorado has secured a Big 12 Tournament berth and sits fifth with 21 points, one behind Baylor and Houston.
"We want to keep the momentum going," Head Coach Danny Sanchez said. "We've had a good run of games, and we want to finish the regular season strong, especially with it being Senior Day on Thursday."
With Colorado 9-1 at Prentup Field this season, Sanchez hopes to see fans arrive early and bring that same support as the Buffs honor their seniors Thursday.
"The fans have been fantastic this year," Sanchez said. "The support we've received has been the best since I've been here, and this is my 15th season. We know they'll be out early and loud on Thursday to show their respect, acknowledge the fantastic seniors we've had in this program and hopefully send us out with a win on Senior Day."
Oklahoma State (7-7-4, 3-5-2 Big 12) arrives with 11 conference points and its own postseason hopes still in play. The Cowgirls are unbeaten in their last three matches, following a 2-2 draw against Utah with wins over West Virginia and Iowa State.
"Oklahoma State is on a great run of their own. They're undefeated in the last three games and still have a shot to make the Big 12 tournament," Sanchez said. "We know they're going to come out and play their best soccer on Thursday, so I expect a great match."
The Cowgirls earned their first road win of the season Oct. 29, beating Iowa State 2-0 behind goals from Emma Jensen and Sonora DeFini in the opening 15 minutes. Colorado also won in Ames, with Reagan Kotschau scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory Sept. 17.
DeFini leads Oklahoma State with eight goals and 19 points. Jensen and Emmy Hedden share the team lead with five assists. The Cowgirls have scored 34 goals and allowed 27 through 18 matches.
Colorado leads the all-time series 11-4-3 and is unbeaten in nine meetings in Boulder at 7-0-2. The Buffs won the last meeting, 2-1, in Stillwater on Sept. 19, 2024, with Hope Leyba opening the scoring and Jace Holley heading in the eventual winner.
FINISHING STRONG
Colorado extended its winning streak Friday with a 1-0 victory over Cincinnati. Michaela McGowan scored at 79:24, finishing a rebound after Hope Leyba worked along the end line and hit the crossbar. Leyba earned the assist as McGowan brought her season total to seven goals.
The Buffs outshot Cincinnati 15-2 and allowed just one shot on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Brooke Goerish made the save to record her seventh solo shutout, while Colorado earned its 11th team shutout of the season.
Colorado has outscored its last three opponents 7-0, following road wins at Arizona and Arizona State with Friday's victory. Goerish enters Thursday with a 0.67 goals-against average and an .861 save percentage through 18 appearances.
Leyba leads the Buffs with 10 goals, while Reagan Kotschau has a team-high 28 points on nine goals and 10 assists. Kotschau's next assist would give her sole possession of Colorado's single-season record, which she currently shares with Taylor Kornieck, Shanade Hopcroft and Emerson Layne.
