Buffs Conquer Cougars on the Road, 73-63
February 11, 2026 | Women's Basketball
HOUSTON – The Colorado women's basketball team (17-8, 8-5 Big 12) defeated Houston (7-17, 1-12 Big 12), 73-63, at Fertitta Center on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
The Buffaloes took an early lead over the Cougars in the first quarter and extended it throughout the second to end the half ahead by nine. Colorado continued its momentum into the second half, going up by as many as 13 in the third quarter. Houston tried to come back in the last quarter, but CU ended the game with a final run to take their third consecutive road win, 73-63.
"I told the team, everybody wants to just play a game, get up by 20 and cruise home, and that's not realistic, certainly against a team like Houston who continue to fight and compete for every second of the game," head coach JR Payne stated. "It wasn't beautiful down the stretch, but I'm really proud of our team for their cohesion and their ability to execute some things. To do what they had to do to secure a win against a really tough, scrappy team on the road is not easy to do. So, I'm really proud of our ball club for that."
Colorado had more points in the paint (60-22), bench points (31-16), rebounds (41-32), assists (20-9) and steals (11-10) than Houston.
