Buffs Add Spain Forward David Gomez

April 27, 2026 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER – David Gomez, a product of Spain's Youth National Team program, has agreed to join the Colorado men's basketball program for the 2026-27 season, head coach Tad Boyle announced on Monday.

"David is about 6-foot-9, big, strong, and he's got a 7-foot-3 wingspan, so he's got really good physical tools," Boyle said. He can play and guard both the four and five spot, so his versatility in the front court is going to help us."

A native of Sevilla, Spain, Gomez arrives in Boulder after one season at Charlotte. He appeared in two games for the 49ers, totaling 10 points and seven rebounds, before a foot injury ended his season prematurely.

"He played a game and a half for Charlotte, got hurt and had foot surgery, so he didn't really get a chance to play this year, but he was on the Spanish Under-20 national team and was a key component for them," Boyle said.

Gomez helped Spain to a seventh-place finish at the 2024 FIBA U20 Eurobasket in Gdyina, Poland, averaging 8.3 points and 2.4 rebounds, while shooting 62.2 percent from the field.

Gomez averaged 5.1 points and 3.0 rebounds over 21 games in international competition for Spain's Youth National team from 2022-24, helping his country to a pair of championships. He averaged 2.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in seven games as Spain won the 2022 FIBA U18 European Championship in Türkiye. Gomez pitched in 4.4 points and 4.6 rebounds the next year as Spain took the 2023 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Hungary.

"We're always aware of international recruits," Boyle said. "(CU assistant coach) Nate Tomlinson knew the previous coach at Charlotte (Aaron Fearne, who was let go in March) and had a relationship with him, so we did our homework and moved pretty quickly on him.

"He was pretty much an under-the-radar guy. Sometimes when you get hurt, you're out of sight, out of mind. But the fact that he had surgery, his foot is going to be healthy, and he'll be ready to go. It gave us an opportunity to pick up a really talented player."

Gomez played for the club team Hestia Menorca in Spain's LEB Gold circuit in 2024-25, averaging 4.0 points and 3.1 rebounds.
