Colorado Closes Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes

April 29, 2026 | Men's Golf

HUTCHINSON, Kan. —The Colorado men's golf team closed out the final round Wednesday at the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club with a 295, finishing 16th at 49-over par for the tournament.

Prairie Dunes, one of the most historic venues in championship golf, lived up to its challenging reputation as the Buffs were unable to find consistency across the four-round event. Colorado showed flashes early in the tournament but struggled to sustain momentum against a deep and nationally ranked field.

Oklahoma State captured the team title at 19-under par, earning their 13th Big 12 title, a conference record. The Cowboys were followed by Arizona at 10-under, while TCU finished third at 1-under, Texas Tech placed fourth at 1-over and Kansas rounded out the top five at 3-over. Preston Stout (OSU) won the Big 12 title, making history as the first to ever win three years in a row.

"Incredibly disappointing tournament. Very poor job by me to get the team ready," head coach Roy Edwards said. "We had all year to be prepared and obviously what we did didn't work. It's a great opportunity to learn, and we will do that."

Ty Holbrook led Colorado golfers, finishing 32nd overall for the tournament at 7-over and carding the only round under par by a CU golfer over the championship with a 1-under 69 in round two. He finished Wednesday's round with a 3-over 73. Hunter Swanson carded the Buffs' low round of the day with a 2-over 72, closing his fourth Big 12 Championship appearance in 37th place at 8-over.

Jackson Rivera also posted a 3-over 73 on the day, while Parker Paxton finished with a 6-over 76 and Brandon Knight closed with a 9-over 79.

Swanson, who will graduate this weekend with a business degree, provided steady play throughout the tournament, recording 51 pars over four rounds, the fifth most in the field. Holbrook added 50 pars, tied for sixth. As a team, Colorado totaled 216 pars during the championship, a season high.
