BOULDER – The University of Colorado had 59 student-athletes named to the Big 12 Conference Spring Academic Team, the league office announced on Tuesday.
In addition, 27 first-year Buffaloes across all sports were named to the Big 12 Academic All-Rookie Team.
Spring Academic Team members covered Colorado's men's and women's golf, men's and women's track & field, tennis and lacrosse teams. Those honored carried a 3.20 GPA or higher either cumulative or over the two previous semesters while participating in at least 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Seniors who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all criteria except the participation percentage are also eligible.
Rookie Team honorees are freshmen who have completed 24 semester hours and achieved a 3.0 GPA during their first year on campus.
Five Buffaloes earned the Dr. Gerald Lage Award: skiers Luka Riley and Elena Grissom, Avery Bolles from volleyball and Abbey Nechanicky and Alaina Fantaski from the women's track & field team.
The Dr. Gerald Lage Award is in memory of the former Oklahoma State Faculty Athletics Representative with the NCAA and the Big Eight/Big 12 from 1983 until his death in 2007.
