Nick Bianco Captures Another First Place Finish, Buffs Wrap Up Weekend at UCCS

December 14, 2024 | Track and Field

COLORADO SPRINGS -- The Colorado Buffaloes track and field programs wrapped up the UCCS Pre-Holiday Invitational Saturday afternoon for their final meet action before the new year comes around.

Saturday's competition consisted of eight different Buffs competing across three separate events. It was the New York native, Nick Bianco, who once again recorded a first place finish on the podium, this time for the men's heptathlon finals. Despite heading into the day in fourth place, Bianco finished with 5,591 points while placing first in both the 60-meter hurdles (8.06) and the pole vault (4.80m) events. This marks the second weekend in a row the graduate student has earned a top finish, after winning the 60-meter hurdles race at the Mines Alumni Classic in Golden.

Senior John Swabik was the other CU athlete to place inside the top-5 for the men's heptathlon, placing third with a final score of 5,430 points. Swabik impressed in the high jump, tying for first place with two others and recording a career high of 1.97 meters. He also finished third place in the 60-meter hurdle last weekend in the Mines Alumni Classic.

Drake Miller (8th - 5,027 points), John Bass (10th - 4,758 points), and Marco Martinez (18th - 3,606 points) rounded out the scoring for the Buffaloes in the men's heptathlon event.

The pair of sophomores, Lucas Williams and Ames Newman, competed in the men's shot put for the Buffs. Williams jumped 14.53 meters, good enough for seventh overall, while Newman reached 12.83 meters for a 14th place finish.

Riley Ward was the lone CU athlete representing the women's side on Saturday and did not disappoint. After clearing a personal-best height of 1.75 meters last weekend in the high jump, Ward posted a second place finish at UCCS with a jump of 1.73 meters and continuing her phenomenal start to her 2024-2025 season.
