Excitement Builds For Men’s Basketball At Winter Sports Media Day
October 12, 2026 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER - Colorado men's basketball debuted new faces and different team makeup at Winter Sports Media Day on Monday morning at the CU Events Center.
Fourteen days into their preseason practices, men's basketball is finding the new dynamics and personalities on the team.
"I like this team. It's going to be a fun team to watch and a fun team to coach," Head Coach Tad Boyle said. "They're great kids that listen and they're coachable."
The Buffaloes brought back four key guards in senior Barrington Hargress, sophomore Jalin Holland, sophomore Ian Inman and sophomore Josiah Sanders. Boyle emphasized playing great defense and rebounding and the players paving the way on are Holland and Sanders.
In the offseason they picked up key pieces in senior center Noah Fedderson, senior forward Justin Neely and sophomore forward Goc Malual; all frontline players who can battle inside.
"Those three bigs are going to be key to us being able to compete in this league," Boyle said.
Another player that has taken a lead role in practice is freshman point guard from Australia, Alex Dickeson.
"He's the best passing guard I've ever coached," Boyle said. "He is wise beyond his years. He is mature beyond his years."
During the offseason, the team went on a retreat to Estes Park to build team chemistry.
"It was great because you got to really see those personalities," Boyle said. "It was a really cool experience and I was a little disappointed we hadn't done that before. I think as long as I'm here we're going to try to do that every year."
The team is still waiting to see how they will be tested in their difficult non-conference schedule and unforgiving Big 12 battles. However, Boyle remains optimistic that his team's toughness, skill and effort will lead to a successful and long season.
"The ceiling of this team is high and this can be an NCAA tournament team," Boyle said.
UP NEXT: Colorado fans can come celebrate the beginning of the basketball season at the Pearl Street SLAMpede on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. Men's basketball will head down to Denver to play an exhibition game against North Texas at Metropolitan State University Denver on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m.
